Challenge:
Learn and Reflect on New Social Studies and Literacy Standards

New standards for social studies and literacy have just been published and adapting to the new standards is expected for teachers and students. 
Task: 
Complete the following: (1.) Look at your current system for teaching literacy and social studies.​ (2.) What benefit would it be to have the areas of literacy and social studies become more integrated? (3.) Reflect on how social studies and literacy might be adapted to become more integrated? (4) How will your instruction be impacted?

Challenge:
Adapting to New Social Studies and Literacy Standards

New standards for social studies and literacy have just been published and adapting to the new standards is expected for teachers and students. ​
Task: 
Complete the following: (1) Compare “old” standards to the “newly” drafted standards. (2) Analyze the similarities and differences between the standards and identify common themes within the proposed standards. (3) Look at a current/previous social studies activity you have used in your classroom and adapt a current/previous activity to fit the new proposed SS standards at your grade level. (5) Share potential resources or units that could be used with grade level or content peers.

Challenge:
Explore Other Grade Levels New Social Studies and Literacy Standards

New standards for social studies and literacy have just been published and adapting to the new standards is expected for teachers and students. ​​
Task: 
Complete the following: (1) Look at the grade above and below your social studies grade level to analyze the differences in learning. (2) Compare and contrast the grade levels above and below your grade level and explain the benefits of knowing what is taught prior to and after your grade level. (3) Describe your shift in instruction after having reflected on #1 and #2 and give specific lesson examples.

Task:  
​CHOOSE YOUR OWN TASK Design your own task that includes inquiry into new learning resulting in a change in practice, reflect on the new practice, and in some form or another share beyond the classroom.

Challenge:
AIW Framework

Research shows that teachers who engage in the AIW  framework provide a foundation of standards for the more complex intellectual work necessary for success in contemporary society for students to engage in.
Task:  
​Complete the following (1) Bring a social studies lesson to a district AIW meeting for scoring.  (2) After the scoring conversation, make adjustments to the lesson using the feedback given during the scoring session.  (3) Reflect on the AIW scoring process along with the changes you made in your instruction and how the process impacted you as a teacher.
